An excellent assortment of clever and original card magic by one of Germany's finest close-up magicians.
Volume 1: The first trick, "Brute Force Opening", is a trick that you may already do. However, Mr. Behr has engineered every moment to have the latest in layman fooling technology and subtlety, a real lesson in card handling. Plop is an efficient way to rapidly find four of a kind without looking at the faces of the cards, a utility of vast application. A Trick for Allan Kennedy is a superb and extremely clean method for faking a center deal demonstration. Additionally Mr. Behr has contributed an excellent article on memorized stack work in Finding the Way Home, which is a must read for all stack workers and a tempting reason to learn a stack if you do not already do one. You will also find a gambling demonstration, an impossible card location, a very effective handling of Oil & Water with a devastating finale, and more.
"There is some fine thought in this material. My favorite pieces are "A Trick for Allen Kennedy" (a surprise, since I'm not usually drawn to gambling effects) and "Oil and Water Finale". However, there is much else to admire." - Stephen Minch
Volume 2 picks up right where Denis Behr left off in the last volume with an excellent assortment of clever and original card magic. There are two new handlings for center deal demonstrations entitled Two More Tricks for Allan Kennedy, and they are diabolically clever. Home Again expands on the excellent article Finding the Way Home from the previous Handcrafted book with several more enlightening insights into the exciting field of stack work. Also included is a supremely clever handling of Triumph called Messy. The cards look so convincingly like a jumbled mess throughout much of the routine, the denouement is very surprising indeed! In addition to the tricks there is a very interesting handling for a Palm-to-Palm Transfer, and, of course, a number of other excellent tricks. However, I would be remiss if I did not mention one of the best things in this book! Herbert is a supremely visual and engaging effect wherein a rubber band, wrapped around the deck, almost takes on a personality of its own and starts finding selected cards. To see this is to want to do it, don't miss out.
"Denis Behr doesn't take himself too seriously, but he does take card magic seriously. In his latest literary effort, Handcrafted Card Magic 2, you can read for yourselves why Denis has to be considered a serious author, for what he writes is interesting and original, with the added benefit that the interesting things are also original, and the original things interesting." - Roberto Giobbi
